Tinkle Tinkle

Today Foster started singing "Tinkle tinkle little star......". I was shocked because I didn't even know he knew that song. He goes to pre-school one day a week so I guess he must be learning things after all. We went to a water balloon party today and Foster wasn't so sure about it until he picked up one balloon and threw it on the ground. He didn't want to throw it at anyone, just on the ground. It was a nice day because it was only 77 degrees which is a welcome relief from the 100 degree days we have been having. Everyone has had it!

One other thing that I must comment on is that when Foster wants to give you a kids he puckers up his lips and says, "mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm" when he kisses you he says, "MAH!" It is pretty sweet. Today he wanted a kiss in the car while we were driving and tried to unbuckle his seat belt to accomplish this goal. He also said for the first time today, "thanks, Mom!" Before this it was always, "Tankoo Mommy!" So, I guess I have been upgraded to Mom. Scary! Mom wasn't feeling the best today so I was laying down while Foster watched Elmo. He decided he wanted to lay down with me so he said, "Mean down. Mean down!"

This is  pretty fun, but also tiring age. We try to treasure each day with Foster as we know he is growing too fast! I am happy we have three years at home together before he goes to kindergarten.
Took some cute pics today but still don't know how to download pics from new camera. Shoot!

Things we want to remember

We have had so many instances lately where Foster has said something we want to remember. Since he is really learning to talk there are just so many cute things we can hardly take it sometimes. Of course when I sit down to try to remember some of them nothing comes to mind. Ug! One of my biggest fears is that we won't remember his childhood and all the joy he brings us.

Foster spends his time watching Elmo and Super Why, visiting with friends like Hope and Robby and Sarah; Samuel, Drew and Julia; Eric and Owen; and Lauren and Owen. He likes to play with water in the sink at home and loves playdough. I picked up an Elmo playdough set the other day which I thought was the perfect marriage of two of his greatest loves. He likes to go to Grandma's and really loves to play peak with her.  He loves letter and numbers and loves to have us make him letters and numbers with the playdough cookie cutters. He will tell us to make a zero and then wants us to get the zero out of the playdough. He will say, "zero". We then make a zero and he will say, "opens! or "open zero!" We hear this soooooo much.

He goes around singing his ABC's alot lately. He also has started to sing BINGO. I will start to sing with him and he will say, "mommy! no song!" Apparently he doesn't like my singing. We were at a birthday party today and before and after the Happy Birthday son Foster would sing "happy to you, happy to you!" We read stories before bed. He is stuck on four books in particular: Zoo Book, other Zoo Book, and Pot (spot) and snowman. No matter how hard I try to get him onto some other books it does not work. I guess he is a creature of habit.

Foster loves suckers and asks for them for breakfast. I am thinking Daddy might have something to do with that. He asks for "sook snacks" all he time and eats goldfish like we don't feed him anything else. He has about 5-10 approved foods and if we try to sneak something else on his plate he will say, "no!!!!!!!!!!" We will say, "don't you want to try the strawberry?" and he will say, "no sawburry!" He will eat pizza, chicken nuggets, fries, sometimes grilled cheese, oh and hot dogs are a total hit with him. He might eat mac n cheese if we are lucky. Going to parties and other people's houses is a little difficult at this point.

He asks for "banketscout" all the time. Translation: his blanket and his puppy scout. He loves these two things so much; almost as much as he loved his sippy. He would get a sippy with almond milk at nap time and at bedtime and he was in heaven. But, I decided we needed to take it away. I was terrified of how he would react but it was fine. He asked for it for a couple of days, but that was it. We told him we lost it which was so believable because we lose things so much that "lose" was one of his first words.

Foster loves to carry around little treasures with him. Anything from a little bead to a piece of plastic from one of his toys. He gets very mad when he loses his treasure and usually gets mom and dad to help him find his treasure of the day. He carried a gray piece of plastic from his car ramp around for days. It somehow got named "fing". We would end up searching the house endlessly in search of "fing!". Thank goodness he lost his affection for fing because we were going nuts. Foster loves to play downstairs with daddy. They play cars and balls which involves sitting up to daddy's pool table and moving the balls around. He likes the green ball in particular and always asks for hit.

Foster also asks for "beans". Translation: any candy that reminds him of jelly beans. He will say to us, "more beans?". We can hardly resist his cuteness in these moments. Mommy has a sweet tooth and has a bucket of spice drops in the house that his is on to. These are called beans he really likes the green ones. He likes his green jammies with Micky Mouse on them and asks for them when he goes to nap or to sleep at night. He is not a fan of the times when I have to wash them and they are unavailable.

The other day we were playing with the cars ramp. In order to make it arch the right way you need to put a peace of plastic there. For some reason Foster doesn't like to have whatever we stick in there because as soon as we put it in he takes it out. The other day I put the plastic in and he took it out and then said to me, "STOP IT!" I thought this was pretty funny but tried very hard not to laugh.

We are having camera and computer difficulties lately that will hopefully be rectifyed soon so I can post some of the current pics we have of him. He is SO HARD to take pictures of lately which is driving mom nuts. He is such a moving target that we had to invest in a camera that would take the picture faster after you push the button. We are very slowly figuring out how this new toy works. It is still hard to get a pic but we are hoping the camera will improve the situation somehow.

Good weekend-rough week

We had a nice weekend here at the Wohlers household. We went to the park this weekend which was nice. The great weather gave us a little taste of Spring to help get us through the rest of Winter. The groundhog did see his shadow this year so I am sure that Spring is just around the corner! We also went to the mall on Sunday to play and have lunch with our friends, Eric, Nadine and Owen. Foster had a great time and had one of his favs: hot dog and french fries. Daddy had an old childhood friend, Dave, over for a visit on Sunday night. He enjoyed playing pool and catching up with his friend. Mommy went knitting on Sunday at Whole Foods and enjoyed a caramel steamer while knitting and catching up with knitting friends.

Unfortunately Foster came down with a fever of 101.5 on Sunday night. I thought for sure he had a virus. He has been on his second round of antibiotics for 8 days so I didn't think it could be any kind of infection. He also has a terrible sounding and persistent cough. We tried giving him cough medicine last night to no avail. He was having none of it! He slept in this morning until after 9 which is totally unheard of for him. I have to admit that I enjoyed the extra hour or two of sleep. Foster was obviously cranky this morning. I called the doctor again this morning because Daddy spotted drainage out of his right ear. This is the same ear that we have been to the doctor twice to look at. So, we will go to the doctor again this afternoon after nap to see what the doctor has to say. Poor Foster! He has really been having a hard time over these last two weeks.

Foster's second birthday party is on Friday so I will hope against hope that he is feeling better by then. We DO NOT want a repeat of last year when he was sick as a dog at his party!

Fun and not so fun

For the second part of last week and this week we have been struggling with an ear infection that hasn't wanted to go away. Foster got his tubes in last March and we hadn't had an ear infection until this one so it was a total surprise to me. The nurse on the phone suggested that it could be an ear infection and I thought she was nuts, but she was right. We didn't get rid of it with the first round of antibiotics so we went back to the doctor on Monday and he is now as good as new. Oh he is still ornery, but a little less intensely ornery!

All the while Foster has still managed to keep Matt and I in stitches and to melt Mommy's heart. The cutest thing ever happened last week. He was sitting in his chair eating quietly and I was in the kitchen washing dishes. He doesn't talk a whole lot so it was completely to my surprise when he says, "wuv voo!". It was so out of the blue and unpromted. Oh, and if you don't speak Fostereeze, the translation is "love you!" I don't think Foster has ever melted my heart as much as that day.

We have been staying busy with our friends and family. We had a playgroup here on Thursday which was very nice. Foster loves to have new moms here to flirt with and mostly tolerates other children playing with his toys. We had some friends over on Monday for a playdate and had a breakfast to go to today. After the breakfast we hit the part with the usual gang. It was really nice to get outside! Oh and Foster got his haircut by Aunt Kim last night. No more curls right now, but I am sure they will come back in a week or two.

Update!

Nadine, Eric, and baby Owen under the blanket!
Foster has been a busy boy this week! We had one playdate on Monday with our good friends, Nadine, Eric, and new baby Owen. She invited us over with some other moms and kids and made lunch. Foster had a great time and even ate dried berries for the first time. Foster doesn't eat any fruit or veggies so this was a breakthrough.

Heather and baby Kaitlyn
Tuesday was also a great day. We had church in the morning which Foster just loves. He is so happy when he sees Miss Christy that he barely looks back when I walk away. After naptime we went to our very good friend Sarah's house for turkey dinner. Then it was off to Jumpin' Jax. Foster just loves to bounce there
.

Little Eric
This is a pic of little Eric. Foster and Eric probably think they are related because we they see so much of each other.

friends Kara, Lauren, and Owen
Wednesday was also a big day for Foster. We had a birthday party to go to in the morning for baby Carter who isn't a baby anymore. Today we celebrated his 1st birthay. We went to backyard adventures where Foster got to swing, jump on the trampoline, and climb on all the jungle gyms. He had cake and ice cream which might be his favorite thing in the world to eat.

Little turkey

Foster has been having a typical week of hanging out with friends and Mommy and Daddy. We had a snow storm this week so we didn't get out as much as we normally do. We had friends over to our house on Monday which Foster loves. We stayed in on Tuesday and Wednesday and then went to church on Thursday and went to a playdate on Friday. Today (Saturday) we met friends at the mall which is a what we normally do on Saturday.

Mommy has to get better at taking pictures. Yesterday's Valentine's playdate would have been a great photo opportunity. But, I did get some pics at the mall today to share with you all. Foster is very friendly with strangers. He loves to go up and sit by them or just stand in front of them and get them to look at him with his charming smile. He will then have a pretend conversation which typially throws them off because he looks a little older than he is. They normally think he is talking real words. I took a pic of him with one of his new admirers today.

One of his new habits is to say, "um........and a tongue click" when you ask him a question. You must hear it in person because it is the funniest thing. He is immitating Mommy who does the same thing.  I, of course, didn't realize I did it until Foster starting immiating me. So, you ask him if he wants some cheese he will say, 'um......tongue click, yeah."

We have been having trouble napping lately. Foster doesn't want to fall asleep and sometimes it takes over an hour. Just about the time Matt or I are about to give up and get him up, he will fall asleep. Not sure what is behind the recent development, but hopefully it will pass. Mommy is not ready to give up napping this soon!

First Post

After much urging from a good friend in Minnesota I have decided to do a little documentation of what little Foster has been up to. I am not great at taking pics or journaling so we will see how I do with this. Maybe if I have a blog I will be better about taking pictures. I scrapbooked two calenders for Christmas gifts this year. When it came time to find pictures, it was a little bleak! I had a blog ages ago in a past life to display greeting cards. I remember frustration that I couldn't take professional quality pics or get my posts to be formatted perfectly. Since having Foster I have somewhat abandonned my quest for perfection in these types of things. Maybe I will have less gray hair because of it. We'll see!

Foster has been quite the little monkey lately climbing on everything he can. It is a really great day when he can climb and jump! Here is a pic of him jumping on mom and dad's bed. I keep telling him he will break his leg, but that has done little to sway him.

Our mom's group has 4 birthday this month, Foster included. We went to a a great birthday party this weekend. Foster loved it because he got to do alot of climbing, jumping, and got a cupcake! Could it get better than this?

Grandma Barba came for a visit last weekend. We spent time shopping and had a crock pot roast meal. We also enjoyed hanging out with Foster. Here is a pic of Foster Frederick and Grandma Barb.

It is snowing and icy out today so Foster and I are stranded at the house. Daddy is upstairs working as he gets ready to go to UNO to teach his class. We are to go to a party tonight with our mom's group. Hopefully the weather will not keep us from going. We love all of the friends we have made here in Omaha.

That completes the first post. I am hoping there will be a second next week!
